PREVENTION, ALCOHOL & OTHER DRUGS

GOALS:

  • BY JUNE 30, 2007, REDUCE PROBLEM BEHAVIOR AND SUBSTANCE AMONG IN YOUTH AGES 8-18 IN LYCOMING AND CLINTON COUNTIES BY 5%.  (examples: dealing with peer pressure, better parent/child communication, better refusal skills, etc.)
  • BY JUNE 30, 2007, REDUCE AVAILABILITY OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND OTHER DRUGS IN YOUTH AND ADULTS IN LYCOMING AND CLINTON COUNTIES BY 5%.  (examples: healthier beliefs and clearer standards, additional awareness and education programs, availability of community supported substance abuse prevention.)
  • BY JUNE 20, 2007, REDUCE PROBLEM BEHAVIORS IN YOUTH AGES 4 -14 IN LYCOMING AND CLINTON COUNTIES BY 5%.  (examples: social competence, autonomy, problem solving, communication skills, caring, goal setting, parent positive discipline skills, etc.)

CONTRACTED SERVICES INCLUDE:

·        INFORMATION DISSEMINATION

·        YOUTH/ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS

·        MINI GRANTS FOR ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES WITH A PREVENTION MISSION

·        PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION AND REFERRAL (Student Assistance Programs)

·        COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS  (example: networking with coalitions, civic organizations, and agencies)

·        ENVIRONMENTAL (example: encourage communities to identify risk factors and change policies and norms to reflect a positive prevention message)
